WATCH THE TIME

Not many students or young people wear watches anymore. If we need to know the time, we pull out our cell phones and check it there. While this may be convenient for many who keep their phones at hand, it may also be inappropriate for some situations. During a midterm you can’t have your phone out for any reason, and it’s rude to be looking at your phone during a formal meeting or interview. The solution is a good old-fashioned watch. Here are some styles that aren’t so old-fashioned.

WARBY PARKER: A NEW CONCEPT IN EYEWEAR

I’m always excited to buy a new pair of frames, but complications of the purchase can make it a hassle. Glasses are expensive, and then I have to pay another $75 for anti-reflective lenses? I also often encounter a lack of variety when choosing a pair of glasses. The selection that my optometrist carries is limited- every display case is filled with many small, rectangular, wire frames. I always end up settling for pair that is short on personality. The creative minds behind eyewear company Warby Parker don’t want glasses-wearers to settle.

Web-based Warby Parker offers stylish, vintage-inspired prescription glasses for $95 a pair with free-shipping. A wide selection of colors and styles are available for men and women- they even have a monocle! Warby Parker also operates under the “buy a pair, give a pair” principle: for every pair of glasses bought, they’ll donate another pair to those don’t have access to glasses. Skeptical about buying glasses online? Warby Parker has a virtual try-on option that allows you to get an idea of what you will look like with the glasses on. There’s also a five day home try-on if you want to handle the glasses in person before you decide.
